Equity E-Bike Projects

Metro Mobility is expanding e-bike access to low-income communities in Massachusetts through equity focused e-bike rental programs powered by their patented ChargeLock stations. Through partnerships with municipalities, housing authorities, property owners, and employers, Metro Mobility has deployed self-serve e-bikes with extremely low-cost rentals for income qualified riders, providing affordable, convenient, and green transportation to those in need. Access to reliable transportation in the form of station-based e-bikes can expand economic opportunities, provide access to healthy food options, and eliminate CO2 emissions from internal combustion engine vehicle trips.

ChargeLock Stations

The Metro Mobility ChargeLock station combines locking and charging in a single cable, allowing for a simple low-cost station that accommodates any light electric vehicle design. No tedious docking. No manual charging. The rider simply plugs the vehicle in and walks away. This locks it to the station, ends the rental, and start charging automatically.

Data and Software

Metro Mobility’s station based e-bikes provide real time GPS location and usage data. This information is logged and analyzed by Metro Mobility's fleet management software to make the trip maps on this page possible. The granular data from this system allows for precise measurement of trip mileage, tracking of routes and destinations, and unprecedented insight into how these e-bikes are being used. The Metro Mobility user apps collect additional information about trip purpose and mode replacement in order to track the impact these e-bikes have on users and their community, and precisely measure C02 emissions reduction. The trip maps shown here can also provide additional insight into the broader transportation network and assist with planning by local and state agencies.
